Hello, my name is Dorothy and I live in London, in the UK.
I am standing next to the man wearing black and behind the woman wearing purple. Can you spot me?
First of all I want to say thank you for visiting my site. I love sharing valuable information with people and I hope that this site fulfills that. I come from a mixed African-European background and have lived in three different countries whilst growing up. I suppose this is one of the reasons why I went into teaching English as a foreign language.
I’ve been teaching English since 2009 at a college in London, and have taken part in many training sessions to help teachers improve their teaching methods in the classroom.
Like many English teachers, I wasn’t planning to become a teacher but sort of just fell into it through a friend who suggested that I try it because I was good at explaining things :-). I originally studied Psychology at Westminster University and was interested in human behaviour and the mind. I worked at a nursing home for about 3 years as an activity co-ordintor for the elderly and physically disabled.
During this time I gained some valuable experience delivering very animated activity sessions in front of my nursing home audience. This prepared me for my new adventure as a teacher. Since working at the college I have helped new and existing teachers to develop their teaching methods in the classroom and continue to work with much enthusiasm and Joy.
I have taught a range of levels, from beginners’ literacy to upper intermediate and have successfully course tutored groups of students over the years. I have also worked as a German tutor in Bangkok, Thailand and worked as a private tutor for young school children needing extra help with their exams.
Why Papa English?
The idea for creating this website and course developed out of my love for teaching and helping people improve their technique.
I hope you will enjoy taking part in the teacher training course or, if you are a student, I hope you will enjoy learning English here.
